Import / Export Trade Exchange

The principles of the United States Exchange is guided by capitalistic principles of cost, supply  demand and the freedom of open exchange.

Import trade being above export by $40 billion (www.census.gov/foreign-trade/statistics/highlights/congressional.html) is a self-destructive use of this exchange to the United Stated economy, debt & public welfare. Resources & finances are leaving the country by @ 1/5th due to this exchange.

For the security of the United States - financially & economically, the balance of imports should never exceed exports. The country’s profit margin is dependent on the growth of exports over imports. Export trade was what made the United States great in a limited global market. The principles of open trade should never impede the needs of the country or the needs of its citizen’s pursuit of happiness. For, it is not what this country can do for industry but what industry can do for this country.

This could be handled by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Specifically, Sherman Anti-trust Act, Federal Trade Commission Act, Clayton Act, and the Robinson-Patman Act, or local State Government similar Acts. Using FTC acts to control trade inside the borders of the US would have a different reaction to the global  market and long term results for America.

As for the argument that foreign countries would object to limitations that would be placed on trade; I think repayment of the national debt would be an understandable response. And as to how the choice of trade limits would be placed in the above formula: first come, first served with special considerations of congress. If implementation could be instituted like the national restrictions similarly placed by congress to shut down government spending or instituted by any future growth of spending.

It implementation of building new business of exported products; could be instituted with the trade mark made in America. I remember the pride I used to feel when I bought toys as a child and it read made in America.

With special thoughts to Mr. Greenspan.
